Upper and Lower Sunshine Reservoirs

April 20, 2019 9:00 am

Open water on both lakes now. The lower lake is still mostly frozen.  Warm weather yesterday might have changed the ice quality. We recommend caution if venturing on the ice now. Water temps are in the 30’s. The trout are cruising the edges where the water is open. Leeches, baby crayfish and streamer patterns are taking splake, Yellowstone cutthroat and tiger trout in lower lake. The upper lake has been fishing good using midge pupae patterns and bead head nymphs for the Yellowstone cutthroat in the upper lake. Streamers are best fished with a sink-tip, intermediate or full sink fly lines. Your choice. Same for the crayfish patterns.
