Fishing has been fair to good using a mix of dry flies, wet flies or streamers, depending on when you plan to fish.
Flows: Firehole R. – 57 cfs at Old Faithful. Gibbon R. at Madison Junction – 119 cfs. Madison at West Yellowstone – 438 cfs.
Anglers have been successful using size 10-22 bead-head nymphs. Streamers work okay when no hatches are present. Ant, beetle or small hopper patterns are working for dry fly enthusiasts.
Fish deep with small nymphs or soft hackles. One can strip streamers through the deeper pools and runs. Expect better dry fly action early or late.
Water temps are in the high 50’s and 60’s, depending on which rivers you choose to fly fish.
