The Upper Clarks Fork (upstream from Painter Bridge to MT State line) main stem of the river is dropping in flow and much more fishable.
The upper river is still swift and difficult to wade in many places once you get below Crazy Creek. Please do not try floating this section even in a kayak. There are waterfalls and dropoffs one cannot see from the road. Above Crazy Creek, the river is much easier to navigate for wade fishermen.
Bead head nymphs size 8-14 are working well. There is dry fly action on attractor patterns such as large royal trudes, parachute Adams, royal Wulff’s and yellow stimulators.
