Luce and Hogan Lakes

Hogan and Luce have been fishing fair to good. Cold weather this week could have ice around the edges. Access to Luce is from the Hogan reservoir parking lot off County Road 7 RP. If the road is dry, access is no problem. If it has been raining, 4 wheel drive might required. Sight casting on Luce has been productive. Go wet with small leech patterns or bead headed soft hackled hare’s ears, pheasant tails, Prince nymphs and midge pupae. Yellowstone Lake and River below Fishing Bridge

Yellowstone Park will be closed to fishing the 2nd of November. Time is short to enjoy fishing Yellowstone Lake or the river. Discharge from Yellowstone Lake at Fishing Bridge is 591 cfs. Water temps are cooling down now that we have had several snow events since mid-October. Highs are to be in the teens next week. Dress warm and do not go swimming! Flows are very low on the Yellowstone River below Fishing Bridge. Wading is good. The better fishing has been above Le Hardy Rapids. North Fork Shoshone River

The North Fork of the Shoshone is rated as one of the best freestone rivers in the northern Rocky Mtn West. The river fishes best March through the end of October. CFS: 656 Flows jumped with the recent rains and snow melt. The water quality is dirty to grayish green closer to Pahaska Tepee. Water temps are dropping and the trout are spread out now rather than being stacked up like they were through late August. Stealthy anglers will do better than those that just splash into the river. Madison, Gibbon, and Firehole YNP

Yellowstone Park will be closed the 2nd of November. Gibbon: 92.6 CFS; Madison at W. Yellowstone 363 CFS; Firehole at Old Faithful 45 CFS.  The Firehole, Gibbon and Madison Rivers are open to angling. These rivers are fishing fair.  These waters will be closing November 2, 2020 and won’t reopen until Memorial Day weekend 2021. Streamers have been productive now that hatches are dwindling. Big browns and some fall spawning rainbows are attacking streamers and larger rubbed legged nymphs. Time is short – fish your favorite! Pack bear spray!! South Fork

The South Fork of the Shoshone is a smaller version of the North Fork of the Shoshone, with more boulders and pocket water and less public access to BLM, State or USFS land. CFS: 279 cfs  Flow readings are in the South Fork Valley section, 30 miles from Cody. Fishing is good in the Valley area and also inside the Shoshone National Forest.
