Madison, Gibbon, and Firehole YNP

FLOWS – Madison at West Yellowstone – 363;  Firehole at Madison Junction – 259; Gibbon River at Madison Junction – 108.

Water conditions are good on the west side of Yellowstone. The best fishing seems to be early or later in the day through dusk. Caddis and some smaller mayfly patterns are recommended for dry flies. Small pheasant tails, copper Johns, Prince nymphs, hares ears, tan or black North Fork Specials, size 10-20 on the nymphs. Small streamers in the Firehole and Gibbon. One can go larger on the streamers and nymphs below Madison Junction. The upper Gibbon has brown drakes coming right at sunset.
