Flows are low but water quality has vastly improved this week. Fishing has been fair to good.
Caddis, pale evening duns, ants, beetles, hoppers. Attractor patterns such as royal Wulffs or royal Trudes work well as do smaller hopper patterns like Ho Candy, Horrors and club sandwiches.
Fish hopper/dropper rigs or nymphs size 10 and smaller, particularly black bodied North Fork Specials.
Pack bear spray. Crandall is a highly trafficked grizzly bear area.
We apologize for not updating our fishing report pages since mid-July. Without making a lot of excuses, it is because North Fork Anglers has had one of the busiest guided trip and in-the-fly-shop tourist season EVER!
So, thank you to the guided trip guests and those that came into the shop to purchase flies, leaders, tippets, new fly rods, fly reels, fly lines, clothing and gear despite the lack of information on the area fishing conditions. We appreciate each and every angler that has kept the doors open since the Covid ‘crisis’ began in 2020.
Even though the waters have been the lowest seen since 1996, the fishing has been very good in the Cody region. Water temps have been in the comfort zone for trout and these are dropping again as the days shorten and the nights lengthen. We are still heavily booked for guided trips and encourage those looking for a guide in September through October to call, not email, North Fork Anglers at 307-527-7274 for the ability to immediately reserve dates and guides. Hopefully, we can keep up with the fishing report going forward!!
