These reported waters are fly fishing only. North Fork Anglers sells Yellowstone National Park fishing licenses for your convenience.
FLOWS – Madison at West Yellowstone – 335; Firehole at Madison Junction – 188; Gibbon River at Madison Junction – 79.
We apologize for not updating our fishing report pages since mid-July. Without making a lot of excuses, it is because North Fork Anglers has had one of the busiest guided trip and in-the-fly-shop tourist season EVER!
So, thank you to the guided trip guests and those that came into the shop to purchase flies, leaders, tippets, new fly rods, fly reels, fly lines, clothing and gear despite the lack of information on the area fishing conditions. We appreciate each and every angler that has kept the doors open since the Covid ‘crisis’ began in 2020.
Even though the waters have been the lowest seen since 1996, the fishing has been very good in the Cody region. Water temps have been in the comfort zone for trout and these are dropping again as the days shorten and the nights lengthen. We are still heavily booked for guided trips and encourage those looking for a guide in September through October to call, not email, North Fork Anglers at 307-527-7274 for the ability to immediately reserve dates and guides. Hopefully, we can keep up with the fishing report going forward!!
The Park wide closure on rivers and streams throughout Yellowstone National Park due to extremely low flows and high water temperatures was lifted August 20. Yea!! Now fishing hours are sunrise to sunset.
Fishing is fair in these waters! This could change as river and stream temps continue to drop. We advise small pheasant tails, copper Johns, Prince nymphs, hares ears, tan or black North Fork Specials, size 10-20 on the nymphs. Yellow Sally, caddis, pale evening dun and caddis are out as are hoppers, ants and beetles.
