The fishing in the Cody/Yellowstone area was not affected by the Yellowstone floods – come out and enjoy the excellent fly fishing!

Bighorn / Wind River

January 30, 2023 9:00 am

1100 CFS (approximately) BELOW BOYSEN DAM:

Fishing has been fair to good due to cold weather, wind and ice accumulation in the Wind/Bighorn River near Thermopolis, WY.

Anglers are doing well stripping streamers or dead drifting sowbugs, scuds, San Juan worms (or similar worm imitations), midge pupae patterns like Zebra midges, FRM’s, Hares ears, Pat’s rubber legs coffee/black, or girdle bugs, in black or brown colors and or Black or Tan versions of Wade’s North Fork Special.

Temps have been frigid and well below freezing lately. A warm up is due the first week in February, so get out and enjoy the Wind River Canyon (Wind River Reservation License required!!) or the fishing below Wedding of the Waters.

We apologize for not updating our fishing report pages as regularly as some of you would like to see. We do hope you understand our predicament and forgive us for any oversight when it comes to the fishing reports.

Should you want an immediate update on flows, water quality, hatches, fly suggestions, we advise you call, not email, North Fork Anglers at 307-527-7274 for that. We also suggest and recommend that you do the same for the 2022 Guided Trip season to reserve dates and guides. We are already getting bookings for March through October guided float and walk/wade trips in 2022. If you have your dates picked out, we urge you to get a deposit made as soon as possible so you don’t miss the chance to float or walk/wade Cody/Bighorn area rivers and streams.
