Cast and Blast trips are a combination of waterfowl/flyfishing experience. These trips begin after the end of the fair-weather fishing season and during the fall/winter months through the end of December. Experience great passing shooting from a blind over decoys for teal, mallards, geese, gadwall, wood duck, and other waterfowl. After the morning flights are over, your guide will take you to the put-in point for a great day of fishing on the lower Shoshone or Bighorn Rivers, filled with browns, cutthroat, and rainbows. Don’t forget about the pheasant and chukar that inhabit the river bottoms. Most of these trout range in size from 14-20 inches. Expect to catch plenty of trout larger than that, particularly on overcast days.

The weather is generally mild, with temperatures in the 40’s through the 50’s, even up in the high 60’s right through December. Sure, there are occasional days when the snow blows and the wind howls, but that makes for excellent waterfowl conditions. There are always plenty of places left to duck the weather and bang big browns, cutthroat, and rainbow trout for the rest of the day.
Cast and blast trips are planned around the waterfowl season, usually October through the end of December. You will have two guides. One will be calling the ducks and managing the retriever and decoy spread. The other will be rowing you down a river most anglers never get to flyfish because they forget the best fishing of the season can be found after everyone else has settled down to watch football games on the tube!
