Lower Shoshone Tailwater

FLIES: Firebead sow bug, North fork Specials, Purple Prince, Jigged Prince, Walt’s Worm, Lucent prince, Prince, San Juan worm, Bloody Mary, Pheasant Tail, Midge pupa, Jigged Meathead, Drag Queen, Sculpzilla, Mini Dungeon, Slump Buster, Thin Mint, pmd’s, Caddis, and midges
CONDITIONS: The flows on the Low Sho are dropping fast. Dry dropper rigs are still working on the warmer days and nymphs under an indicator on the colder ones. The streamer fishing has been great on the overcast days.FYI, we are seeing quite a bit of exposed metal debris in the river due to the low flows. Be very careful while floating.

Bighorn \ Wind River

FLIES: poxyback sow, yum-yum sow, Herford’s magic, Various worm patterns and colors, thin mints, Midges, Firebead sow, purple and pink lucent perdigon’s, black Spanish bullet, Ice cream cones, Sculpzilla, Rusty Tombone, Montana Mouthwash.
CONDITIONS: The flows on the Bighorn are dropping fast. The fish are starting to migrate from the shallow riffles into the deeper runs. Try fishing worm's, sow's, perdigon's, Zirdles, Yuk Bugs, scuds, and midges fished under an indicator.Look for a few heads up on BWO’s and midges.

North Fork Shoshone River

CFS: 360FLIES: North Fork Specials, Drag queens Pheasant Tail Optic Nerve, Trout Pupa, Orange Lucent Prince, Halfbacks, Lucent Tag Perdigons, Chubby cousins, BWO’s Caddis, and streamers.
CONDITIONS: Most of the fish have moved back to the reservoir. I wouldn’t expect much action if your heading that way.

South Fork of the Shoshone

FLIES: North Fork Specials, Meat heads, Bloody Mary’s, Chubby cousins, Optic Nerves, Jigged prince, Lucent Prince, Walts Worm, golden stone nymphs, BWO’s and Streamers.
CONDITIONS: The South Fork is fishing great right now. Dry dropper rigs have been the most productive tactic with attractor dries and various jig attractors beneath. Look for bwo’s, and midges on the surface..

Lower Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone

CONDITIONS: I wouldn’t expect large numbers of fish but there is the chance of catching some big ones. Dry dropper rigs have been the most productive method for catching fish with stonefly nymphs and various jigged attractors.I would also try working a streamer on overcast days and in the evening.

East & West Newton Lakes

FLIES: Hares Ear, Pheasant Tails, Zebra midges, Ice cream cones, Balanced leeches, Thin mints, Slump busters, Callibaetis nymphs and dries, Scuds, Soft hackled jigged nymphs, streamers damsels.
CONDITIONS: The East lake is cooling down and starting to fish very well. Fish are taking suspended chironomids, balanced leeches, terrestrials, and slow stripped scuds and callibaetis nymphs.
The west lake has been stocked with tiger musky. They are currently small and very lethargic but we are hopeful they’ll make it through winter and gain some size.

Luce & Hogan Lakes

CONDITIONS: The lake’s are cooling down as we approach the fall season and are starting to fish very well. Fish are taking suspended chironomids, balanced leeches, terrestrials, and slow stripped scuds and callibaetis nymphs.

Upper & Lower Sunshine Reservoirs

FLIES: Wooley Buggers, ice cream cones, hares ears, pheasant tails, lightning bugs, scuds, trout pupa, jigged drag queens, optic nerves, Terrestrials, and streamers
CONDITIONS: This is the best time to fish lower sunshine. Try pitching streamers off the dam to target the spawning splake and tigers.

Yellowstone National Park | Lamar, Slough, Soda Butte, Pebble

FLIES: North Fork Specials, Halfbacks, Optic nerves, Walts worms, 20 inchers, Lucent prince, eggs, stimulators, chubby chernobyls, Caddis, PMD’s, Parachute adams.
CONDITIONS: The Lamar river and tributaries are fishing very well on the warmer days. Rain and snow storms have kept the river in a state of flux for the last couple of weeks. Hopper dropper rigs are still the ticket but look for BWO’s and midges to be hatching.
Try working some streamers as well.

Yellowstone National Park | Yellowstone Lake & River below Fishing Bridge

Yellowstone Lake
FLIES: Buggers, balanced leeches, midge pupa, hare’s ear, pheasant tail, Callibaetis nymphs and dries, terrestrials.
CONDITIONS: Open and fishing well. The fish are starting to move back in towards shore and are becoming easier to catch from the bank.
Yellowstone River
CFS: (Lake outlet) 645
FLIES: North Fork Specials, Pheasant tails, Hares ear, Prince nymphs, Rusty spinners, midges, and BWO’s.
CONDITION: The Yellowstone is in great shape at the moment. We should see the fish taking midges, BWO’s, and the occasional terrestrial. I would also try working a streamer seeing that the cutty’s are trying to fatten up for winter. Pack your bear spray and be on the lookout for large animals.
