    CONDITIONS: The Low Sho is fishing great all the way from the Buffalo Bill dam to Powell. Dry dropper rigs have been the most productive fish catchers with streamers working on the overcast days.

    FYI, there is quite a bit of water cress breaking free and floating down stream at the moment.

    CONDITIONS: The Bighorn is starting to fish better now that the evenings are getting cooler. Grass is still an issue so focus on getting a perfect drift. Any sort of micro drag will have your flies grassed up in an instant. Look for heads up on trico’s and pmd’s early in the morning. Worm's, sow's, perdigon's, Zirdles, Yuk Bugs, scuds, and midges fished under a hopper the rest of the day. Fish the shallow riffles for the best success.

    CONDITIONS: The fish are starting to move back to the reservoir but there are still some quality fish in the system. Dry dropper rigs are still the most productive fish catchers but start to down size your hoppers and nymphs. Look for heads up on green drakes during the day and caddis and pmd’s in the evening.

    CONDITIONS: The South Fork is fishing great right now. Dry dropper rigs have been the most productive tactic with attractor dries and various jig attractors beneath. Look for green drakes, pmd’s, yellow sallies, and caddis on the surface..

  • Lower Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone

    FLIES, North Fork Specials, Princes, Pheasant Tail, Optic Nerve, Orange Lucent Prince, Lucent Tag prince, Golden stones, Caddis, PMD’s, Sallies, perrdigons, Walts worm, Sculpzilla,

    CONDITIONS: I wouldn’t expect large numbers of fish but there is the chance of catching some big ones. Dry dropper rigs have been the most productive method for catching fish with stonefly nymphs and various jigged attractors.

    I would also try working a streamer on overcast days and in the evening.

    CONDITIONS: The East and West lake’s are starting to cool down as we approach fall. I would avoid fishing them during the middle of the day still, and focus more on the mornings and evenings. Fish are taking small damsel nymphs and dries, suspended chironomids and balanced leeches, terrestrials, and slow stripped scuds and callibaetis nymphs.

  • Yellowstone National Park | Lamar, Slough, Soda Butte, Pebble

    FLIES: North Fork Specials, Halfbacks, Optic nerves, Walts worms, 20 inchers, Lucent prince, eggs, stimulators, chubby chernobyls, Caddis, PMD’s, Parachute adams.

    CONDITIONS: The Lamar river and tributaries are fishing very well. Hopper dropper rigs have been the ticket but look for green drakes, caddis, pmd’s, yellow sallies, spruce moth’s and rusty spinners to all be hatching.

    Fishing ants, beetles, and hoppers lately has been extremely productive.

  • Yellowstone National Park | Yellowstone Lake & River below Fishing Bridge

    FLIES: Buggers, balanced leeches, midge pupa, hare’s ear, pheasant tail, Callibaetis nymphs and dries, terrestrials.

    CONDITIONS: Open and fishing well. Some of the fish have moved off shore and you’ll see the best action in the mornings and evenings if you don’t have a boat.

    Yellowstone River

    CFS: (Lake outlet) 945

    FLIES: North Fork Specials, Pat’s rubber legs, 20 inchers, Halfbacks, Prince nymphs, Golden Stones, Rusty spinners, Caddis, and PMD’s.

    CONDITION: The Yellowstone is in great shape at the moment. We should see the fish taking caddis, green drakes, spruce moth’s, PMD’s, rusty spinners, and terrestrials in general. Pack your bear spray and be on the lookout for large animals.
